FOR YOUR INTERNSHIP YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO WORK AT IMAGIC TV, WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO WORK AT THIS STUDIO?

At IMAGIC TV I have had the opportunity to work directly in the Background Design area of a production, which is what I want to do. When you join a production you can choose any specialization (general concept, character design, props design, etc.). And I went straight into backgrounds. That was the most important thing for me.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED IN THESE MONTHS OF WORK?

I feel that at IMAGIC I have gained a lot of experience and I have grown a lot as a professional. I also value a lot the relationship with the team. The production company has a spectacular team where respect and a good atmosphere prevail.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORK?

In the studio I worked as a Background Artist. This is the artist who establishes the color, style and atmosphere of a scene drawn by a layout artist.

WHAT WERE YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS?

As background artist, I was given a part of the Storyboard and from there I had to finish the background. To do this, I went through the phases of clean up, line, color and shadows. I worked with simple 2D drawings, with a lot of detail and very well thought out colors. Obviously you also have to think about where the characters will move and put the OLs right. During the internship I felt like just another worker.

HOW HAS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TEAM BEEN?

The IMAGIC team is fantastic, I have felt very welcome from the beginning. Due to the current situation, I was only in the studio for the first month of my internship and then we were confined and since then I have been working from home. However, even then the contact continued to be direct and affectionate. Everyone is different and has their own particular character, but we all work as one and that is what makes them a nice group. Next month I am going back with them to finish the internship. I really enjoy working in a team, both at IMAGIC and with my colleagues at the university.

HOW DO YOU RATE YOUR INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE?

It’s been a great experience! I am a compulsive worker and I can’t stop. I like what I do and if they are backgrounds I enjoy it much more. Besides, they are very varied. Depending on the part of the chapter I’m working on, I have to work on backgrounds with lots of trees, a square, a house, the sea or a park. It’s clear to me that backgrounds are my thing.

OF WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED AT SCHOOL, WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE MOST USEFUL IN YOUR INTERNSHIP?

With Miriam Hidalgo (teacher at L’Idem) we did a lot of work on backgrounds applied to animation. Theme OL, Multiplanes, Props, etc. so that once sent to the animators they can move and use them. Most of what I learned in Míriam’s classes has been very useful in my internship at IMAGIC.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR TRAINING AT L’IDEM BARCELONA?

It has been a beautiful experience, a hard and constant work with a lot to learn. I am very satisfied with the people I have worked with and with the teaching staff of the school. They are the best Concept Art teachers I have ever had.

THIS YEAR THE 4TH YEAR ANIMATION STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPED A SHORT FILM. HOW DID YOU LIVE THIS EXPERIENCE?

Yes, we created the 2D Animation short film “Starving”. In the Concept area we worked with three people (Karma Juliana, Catarina Ferreira and myself) and we got along and worked together very well. We also had a very good relationship with our Animation colleagues. We have worked a lot and I am very happy with the final result.

AFTER YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE, WHERE AND IN WHAT POSITION WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE WORKING IN A FEW YEARS?

A year ago I didn’t know exactly where to go or where to focus my professional future, but now I have it very clear: backgrounds are my thing. I enjoy them very much. Within them are props and color, which I also like very much. Right now I’m working as a Colorscript & Background Artist, that’s what I want to do in the future. And where to go to work, there are many options open, from here to outside Europe. I can go wherever I want and I can, I have no limits. What I do have is the desire to work in different studios.
