The curricular practices of the 2nd year of studies of Mariona Jiménez, Digital Design student at L’Idem, have been developed in the junior studio of Design of the school. WHAT DOES YOUR INTERNSHIP CONSIST OF?

In the junior studio of L’Idem Barcelona we have developed a collaborative project with the Barcelona City Council: “Dissenyem comerços”. Its aim is to contribute to the development of local commerce in various neighbourhoods of the city. In our case, we have worked to promote local commerce in La Prosperitat (Nou Barris, Barcelona). Among the local businesses we have helped, I have worked in particular on improving the design of the La Rambleta association.

HOW HAVE YOU ORGANISED YOURSELVES AS AN AGENCY?

We have a coordinator and a director – our teachers from L’Idem – and we, the students, are the designers.

WHAT OBJECTIVES DID YOU SET FOR THIS PROJECT?

Our main objective was to try to find innovative and creative solutions to improve local trade.

AND WHAT SOLUTIONS HAVE YOU PROPOSED?

I would highlight three major contributions:

  • A rebranding of the trade association.
  • The organisation of events, such as “Botigues al carrer”.
  • And a design manual for shops.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR MAIN FUNCTIONS?

It is a great experience. Although they have no knowledge of design, we hope that, from this project, they will appreciate how it can be a transformation tool to respond to their needs.

IN THIS PROJECT YOU HAVE WORKED DIRECTLY WITH THE CLIENT. HOW HAS THE EXPERIENCE BEEN?

I’m still trying to find out. It’s too early to tell.

FINALLY, FROM WHAT YOU LEARNED AT SCHOOL, WHAT HAVE YOU PUT INTO PRACTICE IN THIS PROJECT?

Design and communication skills. They have been very useful during these months of work.
