The script of ‘Mocca’

Animation, News

The final project of the 3D Animation, 3D Generalist and Art students this year is ‘Mocca< /em>‘. A 3D Animation short film starring Mocca and Latte, two robots who work in a coffee shop. The first and owner of the establishment lives anchored in the past and longs for its glory years. The second is his young apprentice, a giggling robot eager to learn and grow. The film places the viewer in a modern shopping center, where the cafeteria in which the story takes place is located.

We have spoken with Michelle Carpico, student of the specialization in 3D Animation, about the process of creating ‘Mocca‘. Where did the story come from? How have you organized to work on this group project? We invite you to know their answers.

What story does the short film tell?

The story centers on Mocca, an old robot who runs a coffee shop located in a shopping mall. The protagonist of the short has to face more advanced technologies for his business to prosper. And to do it, he will have the help of his apprentice Latte.

Where did the idea come from?

As a final degree project, we wanted to make a simple short that would extol the different technical disciplines of our team. At first it was darker in theme, but the script teacher suggested that we go for a more neutral content.

During the 1st quarter you completed specialized training in scriptwriting.

The script training has been an intense week of work in which we have debated a lot and it has been very useful for us. On the one hand, it has helped us to be specific with the message we wanted to convey. And, on the other hand, it has helped us to sufficiently synthesize a story and keep it understandable. The result we have obtained has been a consistent idea, which is what we have worked on over the following months.

As a summary, what do you want to tell with this story?

In ‘Mocca’ we wanted to raise the constant struggle that occurs between the old and the new today. And we wanted to show how speed often wins over quality.
