Meet Víctor Genestar, Acting teacher

Animation

Víctor Genestar is an actor, director and announcer trained as a singer at the Conservatori Professional de Música de Badalona. He has also studied acting at the Coco Comín School of Dance and Musical Comedy. His artistic projects include ‘Billy Elliot, the musical‘, by Lee Hall directed by Stephen Daldry (2017-2018); ‘Camus, a man in rebellion’, by Rita Barber and Juan Carlos Talavera (2018); and ‘Turandot‘, directed by Mario Gas (2016), among others. 2022 has been his first year as an Acting teacher for Animation programs at L’Idem Barcelona, so we have talked to him to tell us a little more about his professional career:

When and why did you decide to dedicate yourself to your speciality?

I started my professional career as an actor at the age of 28, after having worked in different jobs and studies. I decided to jump into the pool because I felt that “you only live once” and that the Performing Arts, despite my professional ups and downs, had always been my great passion.

How has your career developed?

I studied at different schools in Barcelona, training in acting, singing and dancing. A year and a half later I was lucky enough to join a show with which I toured nationally and internationally for more than two years. After this great experience came more shows, more tours and my first foray into artistic teaching in 2016.

Who have been and are your references or sources of inspiration and why?

Inspiration is something so abstract and simple at the same time that I couldn’t say something/someone concrete. I’m inspired by nature, good music, a group of people with a good heart…. I go to the theatre a lot because the great school of the actor/actress is, apart from the stage, to see, see and see theatre.

What has been your biggest professional challenge and how have you faced it?

I could talk about two shows in particular that were a big challenge for me. Firstly, ‘The Hole’ (Let’s go company), both because of the speed with which I had to learn the role and start acting, and because of the national and international tour we did, a madness of changes of residence, hotels, travel…
The other big challenge was ‘Billy Elliot, the musical’ (SomProduce) because of the magnitude of the show, the move to Madrid, the artistic demands…

What would you say is your most outstanding professional project?

What I would highlight the most is my teaching work in Menorca, my native island. There I have been able to develop for four years a social motivation project in the field of Performing Arts, where many people have been able to experience first-hand what it is like to go on stage and defend an artistic project as a team.

Tell us about your latest project, if it’s not a secret.

My latest project is a creation show with a former student and friend. A very intimate project where we unravel the very fact of existing (fears, frustrations, dreams…).

Apart from teaching, what are you working on now?

I’m currently focused on artistic education (I work in different schools in Barcelona and Menorca as a teacher of acting, voice and movement) and stage direction. I don’t rule out the possibility of returning to the stage if the opportunity arises. For the moment, there are no projects in sight.

Do you want to tell us anything else about yourself?

I believe in second chances. I consider that to want is to be able to and I choose to live without haste but without pause.
