For the second consecutive year, L’Idem Barcelona is collaborating with b’Ars. The fair specialized in VFX and filmmaking Barcelona International Arts & VFX Fair which, since 2014, is the meeting point for professionals, students and fans of visual effects, animation, video games, virtual reality and augmented reality. In the 2022 edition, our school will offer two monographic workshops on 2D Animation and Storytelling. These activities will be taught by Antonio Santamaría and Pablo Mendelbaum, Storyboard and 2D Animation teachers at L’Idem Barcelona respectively.
Storyboard: Screen direction at Filmmaking

In this workshop, Antonio Santamaría will explain how to approach the creation of a storyboard to ensure that the characters move in a coherent and meaningful way from the audience’s point of view. During this online course, the following topics will be discussed:
- Screen direction in Western versus Eastern storytelling.
- Direction of going to a place versus direction of returning from the same place (camera left vs camera right).
- How to change screen direction in sequence and why.
- Progression of the character’s screen position to create visual dynamism.
Introduction to 2D animation with Toon Boom

Toon Boom Harmony is the industry’s leading 2D Animation software and incorporates the latest developments in digital drawing sensitivity. In this workshop Pablo Mendelbaum will explain the basic principles of 2D Animation. And you will learn about the software used by international reference studios from real cases.

The Barcelona International Arts & VFX Fair or B’ARS is the annual international fair specializing in visual effects and filmmaking. Since 2014 it has brought together the leading experts in these sectors in Barcelona with the aim of bringing together the sector’s creative talent in a fun and informal environment.
